Vipers snake their way back into the win column, 3-2 OT
Week 11- The Fort Wayne Vipers slid into this game only with two wins on the Fort Wayne season. Homestead has battled with a losing streak not only in league play but also in crossover games. Brody Rosswurm was the starter for the Vipers. Conner Gould opposed him.
First Period
Jackson Bertels headed to the penalty box first as the senior was called for holding at 14:23. Around seven minutes later, Bertels started the scoring for the Vipers with a straight shot to the net, assisted by Dylan Parks. Homestead got into the action with a rough going to Sam Loxton at 6:28. At 4:07, both teams went to the box as Isaac Morrison and Dylan Parks went off for elbowing and holding, respectively. The Vipers outshot the Spartans 13 to 5 at the end of the first.
Second Period
Evan Brenner continued the scoring for FW as Conner Gould made a bid for a cross-crease save; however, the puck just slid underneath him. The goal was at 10:19, and Vanryn got the assist. Homestead would head to the box for their second time as Litwinko was called for roughing. Danny Martinsky would pull the Spartans within one as he got a shorthanded breakaway goal. With 1:33 left to go in the second, Homestead tied the game as Andrew Litwinko got his third goal of the season with an assist from Rob McNary.
Third Period
Both teams tried to get a goal on the board but came up scoreless. Shots were 5 for the Vipers and 12 for Homestead. The total thus far is 29 Vipers and 24 Homestead.
Overtime
Overtime in the Fort Wayne league is three-on-three for five minutes. Nick Vanryn was the OT hero for the Fort Wayne Vipers. The only shot of the period for the Vipers came off the stick of Vanryn as he had a breakaway, and Gould came too far out of his net. The total shots for the game were 30 for the Vipers and 28 for the Spartans.
