Lions and Vipers battle on the ice and in the penalty box


Drew Baumert and Brody Rosswurm battled, with Baumert and his Lions coming out on top 4-2. The clubs had a combined 101 penalty minutes across the 45 minutes of regulation. 

First Period

Nick Vanryn for the Vipers got called for a roughing penalty a minute 26 seconds into the contest. The Lions were able to capitalize on the power play as Colten Calhoun got his third goal of the season with assists from Colin Robison and Tyson Finefrock. Only penalties would be handed out for the rest of the period. Vipers’ captain Logan Ormsby got called for interference at 8:33. Leo would head to the box twice before the end of the period, with Calhoun going off at 6:15 and Johnny Lipps going at 4:52, both for tripping.  

Second Period

Leo’s Anthony Serafini got called for Elbowing less than two minutes into the second. Colin Robison would get a shorthanded goal during the infraction at 12:49. Leo would then score an even-strength goal at 6:36 as Jonah Haines put it into the back of the net. The Lions would head to the box less than a minute later as Jackson Crawford was penalized for tripping. At 3:51, Calhoun headed to the box, a 10 and 2, for Boarding and Misconduct. The Vipers were able to put up a power play goal as Michael Scully got his second goal of the season. Colton Franks and Vanryn had the helpers, but Vanryn went to the penalty box with 1:49 left. 

Third Period

The Vipers were able to pull within one as Evan Brenner scored his first of the season. Leo and the Fort Wayne club would exchange penalties. Leo got called for a Too Many Men bench minor at 12:24. At 6:53, Brenner went to the box for the Vipers for a cross-check. Hudson Roth for the Lions would go off for an Interference call at 5:16. The Vipers would then get two consecutive calls, Simon Watson for slashing and then Jackson Bertels a 10 and 2 for Roughing and Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Leo’s Sammy Schwartz got two minutes for Unsportsmanlike Conduct and two for slashing. Leo’s Riley Murphy would get two minutes for tripping at 2:14. With 49 seconds left to go in the game; Colin Robison was able to seal the deal for the Leo Lions with an empty netter. Even as the final whistle blew, penalties were not finished. For the Vipers, Simon Watson was the only man in Black and Red to get penalized, and he got two for roughing. The Lions had Serafini for not one but two Game Misconducts, a 5-minute slashing major, and two minutes for roughing. Schwartz earned a 10-minute misconduct, and Jonah Haines got a 10-minute penalty for ‘First to intervene’ or ‘3rd man in’.
