Carroll Chargers take over Leo Lions, 7-1

All three of Leo’s goaltenders saw action in the first contest on Wednesday night. On the opposing side, Luke Vanantwerp made 18 saves on 19 shots. Sam Krauhs for the Chargers had a three-point night.

First Period

Drew Baumert started the game in the net for the Leo Lions and would last only 5:36 into the contest. Leo would get called for a trip at 10:47. Davis Cline would capitalize for the Chargers around 30 seconds later as he sent it in from the blue line, shooting top shelf. Dylan Braun and Sam Krauhs will assist with the goal. Viktor Wolff would get the next goal as he grabbed the rebound in front and roofed it with help from Cater Gnau and Finn Cupp. Carroll scored in bunches this first period, the next goal coming 34 seconds later as Gnau and Wolff would connect once more. Gnau was able to slide in far side as no one was on him. Baumert would get pulled at the 9:24 mark after letting in three quick goals. Alex Mulholland would go in. Will LaLonde would go off for interference at 7:53, leaving the Lions with their first power play chance. Nothing would come of it, and Sammy Schwartz would head off for unsportsmanlike conduct at 5:06. 13 seconds later, Sam Krauhs would collect the puck after two Lions collided and sent it to the top of the net. Just over 30 seconds later, Krauhs almost had a repeat goal and shot to the bottom of the net to score. Also, at 4:17, Eian Demorest would get his first taste of Fort Wayne action as he replaced Alex Mulholland. To round out the period, Carter Gnau would get an interference call with 1:39 left.

Second Period

Leo’s Riley Murphy was penalized for hooking at 10:13. Carroll’s Camden Shuherk would get his first goal with helpers from Will LaLonde and Patrick LaLonde at 7:27.

Third Period

After a quiet second period, the third period brought 47 combined penalty minutes. The Leo Lions would score 43 seconds in to erase the goose egg on the scoreboard. Colin Robison would get his second goal, and Riley Murphy would get his 1st point on the season. Robison would then head to the penalty box over 4 minutes later for a hold. Finn Cupp had a wicked wrister that went top shelf to score Carroll their final goal of the contest, pushing them ahead 7-1. At 8:19, some rough stuff would occur as Benny Meyer got called 2 minutes for slashing and 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct. Carroll’s Carter Overbay would also get tagged with unsportsmanlike conduct. At 3:19, both clubs started a scrum, and several penalties were assessed. Leo’s Colin Robison would get called once more, this time for a rough, and Hudson Roth got a double minor for roughing. Sam Phillips for Carroll got two for roughing and two for cross-checking. Not even 12 seconds later, play needed to be stopped again as fighting would break out. Alex Hendricks would get a 5-minute fighting major and a Game Ejection.
