Leo Lions ambush Vipers in a back-and-forth contest.

Alex Mulholland and Brody Rosswurm defended their nets from the opposition. Mulholland got his first win in league play, and Rosswurm made 23 saves.

First Period

Five penalties would tell the story of the first period. The Vipers would get called first for a trip to Eli Rinehold at 13:17. The Lions would retaliate with a penalty of their own as Sammy Schwartz got called for slashing at 11:46. At 9:19, the Vipers would go off for another trip to Rinehold. At 8:41, the Lions’ Tyson Finefrock would head off for a high stick. The final penalty of the period went to the Vipers, as Cam Whistler went to the box for a cross-check.

Second Period

Three penalties would start back up after the brief intermission. Simon Watson of the Vipers got called for a rough at 9:58. Tyson Finefrock would be called for his second penalty of the game for an interference call. At 3:12, the Vipers’ Colton Franks had collected a roughing penalty. The Leo Lions were the first team to capitalize on the man advantage, and Colten Calhoun scored a power-play goal. Leo would head to the penalty box in the last 34 seconds of the period, and Finefrock sat in the sin bin for Kneeing.

Third Period

The scoring heated up in the third period. Leo would notch another one as Colin Robison scored as he found Finefrock from the nearside post. The Lions would score again as Hudson Roth cycled in front and sent the puck to the nearside post. Leo would keep up the intensity, but it would result in Benny Meyer heading to the box for slashing at 9:19. The Lions would score a shorthanded goal, and Sammy Schwartz went in on Rosswurm all alone to score. Mason Johnson for the Vipers would get a crosschecking penalty. Dylan Parks, one of the tallest players on the ice, scored the Vipers a shorthanded goal of their own as he powered through two men and shot in front of the Leo bench. The Lions and the Vipers would exchange goals once more as Caden Austin would score for the Lions, and the freshman Khristian Williams would get his first goal with the Vipers. To finish the game, Hudson Roth would get called for a 10 and 2 for Boarding.

Leo Lions won 6-2 to finish the third week of high school hockey league play.
