Close Battle Between Spartans and Chargers: Chargers reign victorious, 4-3


Week 9: Cam Gnau was the starter for the Carroll Chargers, and Connor Gould got the nod for the Homestead Spartans. 

First Period

It was a tranquil first period between Homestead and Carroll, with only two penalties called, one for either side. Adlee Scherer for the Chargers went off at 9:43 for interference. Then, a little under three minutes later, Homestead’s Cole Strick was called for hooking at 6:33. 

Second Period

28 seconds into the second, Homestead struck with another penalty. Carson Whitaker went to the box for hooking. 30 seconds later, Daniel Martinsky took another hook and brought Carroll a 5-on-3 opportunity. Colsen White got his fourth goal of the season on the power play with a feed from Dylan Braun and Finn Cupp. The Spartans attacked and Andrew Litwinko was able to score a short-handed beauty to tie the game. Carroll took a penalty of their own as AJ Baldwin was called for cross-checking. At 10:10, Dylan Carteaux and Henry Loxton got matching minors for roughing and slashing, respectively. It would take until 6:51 for another goal to be put up on the board. Carter Gnau scored the go-ahead goal for the Chargers as Braun got his second assist. At 6:10, Dylan Carteaux extended Carroll’s lead unassisted. Finn Cupp finished the period for the Chargers in the penalty box as he went off for tripping with 1:29 to go. 

Third Period

Carroll would head to the box once more as Sammy Phillips was penalized for interference at 10:17. Homestead would control most of the scoresheet this game. Henry Loxton would make his second trip to the box for interference at 9:29. Cole Strick would also make his second visit to the penalty box, this time for interference at 6:33. Mason Gutmann would claw to keep his Spartans in it. His first goal was at 3:28 with assists from Chris Adasczik and Daniel Martinsky. Martinsky would head back to the penalty box at 2:17 for tripping. Mason Gutmann would tie the game up once more at 2:08 with assists from Andrew Litwinko and Rob McNary. Dylan Braun would win the game eight seconds later as his goal was assisted by Gnau.
