Carroll eeks out a win in a SO over Vipers, 2-1

The Carroll Chargers had their work cut out as they battled hard against the FW Vipers. The Vipers pushed the contest to a shootout, where they unfortunately fell to Carroll’s sharpshooters. Luke Vanantwerp got the start for Carroll against the Vipers’ Brody Rosswurm.

First Period

The only action in the first period was an interference penalty to Michael Scully with 1:48 left in the first. Carroll outshot the Vipers 14 to 7.

Second Period

Carroll would score first as Dylan Braun would use Carter Gnau’s pass to shoot cross-crease and score on the near post. Viper’s Simon Watson would head off two minutes later for a holding call at 10:01. The Chargers would get a penalty of their own as AJ Baldwin would get a slash at 3:24. Carroll would go back to the box in quick succession as Braun got called for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. As the clock reached zeros, Jackson Bertels for the Vipers would collect a roughing call. At the end of the second, Carroll had 25 shots compared to the Vipers’ 15.

Third Period

Jackson Hendrick would start the third for the Vipers as he got a tripping infraction. At 9:31, coincidental minors would take Michael Scully and Dylan Braun out of the play for roughing. Simon Watson would collect his roughing call at 8:45. Sam Krauhs would go to the penalty box for the Chargers for a hook at 7:39. The Vipers were able to tie up the game as Jackson Bertels was able to send the puck top shelf from the top of the circle. Carroll would go right back to the box as Mike Baldwin got penalized for high sticking at 4:01. Two more penalties would infest the Vipers before the end of the period: a hold on Michael Scully and a hook on Simon Watson.

Nothing happened. Carroll shot 7 shots to the Vipers 3.

The Vipers sent Jackson Bertels to take the first shot, but he missed. Finn Cupp was the first shooter for the Chargers, and once again, it was another miss. Michael Scully went for the Vipers, and no goal. Carter Gnau, Carroll’s Captain, passed the toe of Brody Rosswurm and slid the puck in. Luke Vanantwerp made the save on Logan Ormsby, and the Carroll Chargers won the game in a shootout. Brody Rosswurm made 43 saves, and Vanantwerp made 21.
