Mulholland shuts out Spartans, 4-0

In the second game of Week 4, we saw the same score and another shutout by the dominant ‘home’ team. Alex Mulholland made 28 consecutive saves to help net his team the win. Alex Dougherty for the Spartans earned 30 saves in the loss.

First Period

The first period was all penalties for both squads. Homestead got the penalty tally going with a tripping call 19 seconds in on Carson Whitaker. Leo would have Riley Murphy sent off for a trip at 13:19. About two minutes later, Jonah Haines would get called for a 10 and 2 for Head Contact at 11:11. Homestead would get the following two sentences: Henry Loxton off for a rough at 7:31 and Thomas Chapman off for a hooking call at 5:07.

Second Period

Leo would start the scoring with a rip from the blueline from Vance Knoblaugh at 13:25. A little under a minute later, Jonah Haines would receive a pass from Anthony Serafini and Hudson Roth from the trapezoid to send it in the slot. The Lions would strike once more, with Sammy Schwartz getting the puck from Hendricks to go in all alone and send the puck in behind Dougherty. Leo would get called for a high stick at 6:41, and Homestead would be penalized for Elbowing at 2:01. Leo’s Johnny Lipps was able to win the faceoff, send the puck back to the blue line, where Jackson Reith sent it ahead to the net at 1:55 to score on the power play opportunity.

Third Period

A quiet third period ended the game as the only tally was a roughing call on Spartan Andrew Litwinko at 10:56.

Alex Mulholland was able to net his first shutout of league play. Dougherty and his Spartans are currently on a 12-game winless streak.
