1/11/23 Homestead reigns victorious over the Vipers


Gavin Elkins scored the second hat trick of the evening in the FWAHA play and pushed the Spartans to win their second game of the regular season.

1st Period

It took four penalties before any other action on the game sheet to start the game. Gavin Elkins took a roughing call about two minutes into the game for the Spartans. Logan Ormsby on the Vipers got called for a hook at 12:42 of the first. Evan Arnold took a tripping call and put Homestead on the Penalty Kill at 10:19 and Elijah Westhoff was also called for a tripping, this time at 9:05. After the back-and-forth action that was sending men to the box, Jackson Bertels for the Vipers knotted his seventh goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Robert Gross scored off of a Darcy Koch feed to put the Vipers up 2-0. Homestead pulled their goalie, Conner Gould and replaced him with Alex Dougherty at 5:01.

2nd Period 

Gavin Elkins scored his first of the night following the 90-second intermission between the first two periods. Henry Loxton for the Spartans and Jayden Edsall for the Vipers traded tripping calls. Landyn Szobody had the equalizing goal for the Spartans from Gavin Elkins and Drew Brimmer.

3rd Period

Homestead pulled to gain the lead off of a goal from Gavin Elkins. In quick succession, Christopher Adasczik scored to give Homestead that coveted two-goal lead. Scully on the Vipers headed to the box for a slashing and Gavin Elkins scored his third goal of the night. Homestead would go to the box twice more and the Vipers would head back once more before the final goal of the game. John Speer would score for the Vipers to give them their third goal of the night.

After the lead that the Vipers had, they could not hold on to keep it into the second and third periods. Final shots on goal for the Homestead Spartans totalled 34 whereas the Vipers had 14.
