1/11/23 Fort Wayne Vipers vs Leo Lions

The Fort Wayne Vipers – Leo Lions series took another turn as the Vipers were vying for their first win of these matchups. In back-and-forth action, the Lions reigned supreme with a late goal from the stick of the senior, JJ Scott.

1st period

Leo opened the scoring at 6:35 with a goal from Dylan Davis. That was the only goal of the game with an assist on it as Colton Calhoun got the helper. Other than that goal, the first period was a quiet one on the scoresheet with no penalties.

2nd period

The Vipers started the 2nd period on the Penalty Kill as Nick Vanryn was called for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Then, both Micheal Scully for the Vipers and Colin Robison for the lions were called to the box for roughing at 9:30 of the second. Darcy Koch of the Vipers dazzled with a ‘Michigan’ style goal at 4:14 that put the red and black back in the game. One last penalty of the second would be called on the Vipers, with Logan Ormbsy making his first trip to the box for a rough at 2:21.

3rd period

Most of the intensity that had built up through the game exploded in the final frame. Cameron Whistler had a wrap-around goal for the Vipers giving them the edge to lead for the first time. But the Lions wanted back in. Weston Roth would get a short-handed, backhanded goal after Colin Robison would make a trip to the Sin Bin for high sticking. JJ Scott would put the game away with 3:09 remaining in the frame, a rebound off of Weston Roth.
