TinCaps players, baseball staff to be paid through October

The Fort Wayne TinCaps are unique among their minor-league baseball comrades.

While other teams’ major-league affiliates’ plans vary, the TinCaps’ MLB affiliate – the San Diego Padres – has committed to paying their minor league players through August, plus there are no furloughs or layoffs for baseball employees scheduled through October.

No other team can make that claim, with most teams cutting off pay this coming Sunday, although the Seattle Mariners have at least committed to paying their players through the end of August.

The move is not, however, related to front office staff or part-time workers in Fort Wayne.

TinCaps President Mike Nutter says the Padres’ decision was not a surprise.
