Carroll Chargers pick up right where they left off, crushing the FW Vipers 6-1

Freshman Brody Rosswurm got the start for the FW Vipers as the netminder. Luke Vanantwerp hoped to prove himself and came out of the shadow of former Carroll goaltender Carson Carteaux and into the spotlight.

First period

The Vipers had controlled most of the play halfway in the first period and held Carroll off. Even though Simon Watson was called for slashing at 10:30, the Vipers had a very successful penalty kill. That energy wouldn’t last long as the Chargers scored two quick goals. Viktor Wolff scored with 6:48 left to go on a fluke of a goal, kicked in by Rosswurm himself. About 17 seconds later, Colsen White scored on a feed from Dylan Carteaux, as no Viper was helping out their goaltender. Finn Cupp scored less than two minutes later as he could draw out Rosswurm and tap the puck in behind him. The Vipers could send the puck down to their offensive zone and ended up scoring themselves. Jackson Bertels got the puck in the back of the net with the help of Colton Franks. Carroll scored with just over a minute left, as Anthony Baldwin’s one-timer went fully topshelf from the blue line. Carroll dominated with 12 shots in the first compared to the Vipers’ 3.

Second Period

There wasn’t any scoring in the second, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t busy. Both the Chargers and the Vipers had plenty of penalties. FW started the period about two and a half minutes in as Simon Watson got called for a roughing penalty. William LaLonde for the Chargers would get called for tripping at 8:48. Also, at that time, Captain Carter Gnau would get a 10 and 2 for Checking from Behind. At 2:47, Carroll would get another 10 and 2; this time, Dylan Braun got called for Charging. At 2:21, Carroll and FW would get offsetting penalties, Nicolas Vanyryn would get called for roughing, and Sam Phillips would get called for holding. Vipers’ Cameron Whistler got called for Elbowing at 54 seconds to finish the period. Carroll now had 24 total shots, and the Vipers had 7.

Third Period

The Chargers couldn’t capitalize on their abbreviated power play, but the Vipers gave them another chance at 10:59. Carroll’s Dylan Carteaux scored a goal of his own at 8:24. Carroll scored once more as Taylor Pederson got his first goal. The freshman scored unassisted off a redirection. That goal would be the end of the scoring, but Carroll’s Braun got an unsportsmanlike conduct call with 3:33 left of the game. The Vipers would take three more penalties to end the game. Vanryn would get called for a hook at 3:24, Ormsby would get called for a slash at 2:21, and at 0:00, Dylan Parks would be called for Roughing.
