Carroll Chargers hunt down Leo Lions, winning 3-1

A rematch of the 2023 Memorial Cup Final was a good one, with both the Carroll Chargers and the Leo Lions looking evenly compared. As Drew Baumert dazzled for the Leo Lions, Luke Vanantwerp started for the Carroll Chargers.

First Period

There was only one call in the first period, which belonged to Jonah Haines of the Lions when he was called for a rough. Shots at the end of the first were 15-13 Carroll.

Second Period

Dylan Braun went off for a rough at 13:35. Carroll would then score a little over two minutes later off a crazy sequence where Drew Baumert made the first two saves on his back but could not save the third as Finn Cupp drew it top-shelf. Leo would retaliate with a goal from the chaos in front of the net as Alex Hendricks got his second of the season. Carroll would take two quick penalties (Dylan Braun, 2 minutes for Kneeing, and Davis Cline, two for high sticking).

Third Period

Leo’s Colton Calhoun got called for a trip that allowed Colsen White to send in a power play goal, low corner on Drew Baumert. Austin Amick for the Lions would get called for Holding Dylan Braun. The Chargers would end the game as Sam Krauhs scored an empty net goal with 31 seconds left of the contest.

1380’s Three Stars of The Night

  1. Colsen White (GWG)
  2. Drew Baumert (47 saves)
  3. Finn Cupp (1 goal)

Honorable mention: The group of Lions fans who helped me get my roster back (huge assist).
