Leo Holds On For Final Win of the Regular Season

The Leo Lions Beat the Homestead Spartans 3-1 on three early goals. Xander Mullholand would get the start for the Lions Alex Doughetry would get the start for the Spartans but did not last long in goal.

1st period

Leo wasted no time getting on the board, spending only 14 seconds before all of the seniors would score in a play. Weston Roth would score, tapping the puck in the lower corner and got assists from Aaron Amick and JJ Scott. Leo just over two minutes later would score to give them a two-goal cushion as Johnny Lipps would get one unassisted. Dylan Davis would score, about another two minutes apart, tapping it in on the side that Alex Doughetry was not paying attention to. Dougherty would get pulled less than five minutes into the game. Conner Gould came in relief. Homestead would get two penalties including a 10 and 2 for senior Aiden Byler for a misconduct and head contact. Homestead’s Christopher Adasczik would head to the box. Leo would let their power play get cut short as Aaron Amick would head to the box for slashing. After the penalties had expired, Hudson Roth would take another one for interference.

2nd period

The second period was nothing but penalties, two for the Spartans and five for the Lions. Senior Drew Brimmer got called for a roughing call at 14:05 of the second. Leo’s Alex Hendricks had a trip at 10:06. Right as one tripping penalty expired, the Lions were back on the kill as Weston Roth got called for another trip at 8:06. As the intensity and physicality of the game increased, three penalties were doled out. Leo’s Riley Murphy and Weston Roth were called for a rough, and so was Homestead’s Andrew Litwinko. Leo would head back to the penalty box for the final time in the second frame for a trip. Homestead thought they had scored to make the game 3-1 but it was immediately washed out for a high stick.

3rd period

The final frame saw a Homestead kneeing call for Mason Gutmann, an unsportsmanlike call for the Spartans’ Evan Arnold and a goal for Gavin Elkins. Homestead took their timeout with 2:15 left to go in the game and pulled Gould for the extra attacker. Leo was not able to capitalize and took a timeout of their own with 47 seconds remaining.

Gould was a perfect 17 of 17, but the damage had already been done. Mullholand was able to hang on to notch his 4th win of the season.

Senior Day

The Homestead Spartans have four seniors, while the Leo Lions just had three on their roster. Spartan’s seniors are Mitchell Richison, Landyn Szobody, Aiden Byler and Drew Brimmer. The pride of the Lions are Aaron Amick, Weston Roth and Jadaquis Scott.
