Coronavirus hits NBA, NCAA events

Coronavirus concerns have impacted some sporting events on both a local and national scope.

With COVID-19 now being designated a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the National Basketball Association made the shocking announcement last night it was suspending the NBA season until further notice.

The league’s developmental league, the G League, which the Fort Wayne Mad Ants are a part of, has also suspended play as a result.

What might be most upsetting to local sports fans is the NCAA’s announcement that all fans – except for essential staff and close family – are banned from its college basketball tournaments.

That includes the Division 3 Men’s Regional and Division 1 Women’s Regional, both of which will be held in Fort Wayne later this month and were initially estimated to have an economic impact of $1.2-million.
